April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Did you know that each day in the United States, more than 9 people are killed in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver? You can help stop the distraction today, by staying alert while driving. Distracted driving includes texting while driving, talking on the phone, looking at your car radio, and overall not paying attention to the road in front of you. Any action you take that leads to you having your eyes off the road, increases the risk that an accident can occur.
According to nhtsa.gov…
More than 3,450 people were killed in 2016 due to distracted driving. In 2015, 391,000 were injured due to the same circumstances. A large portion of these accidents that were reported in 2015 and 2016 was caused by teenagers. Due to this information, it is becoming increasingly more important to have a talk with someone you know about putting away their phone while they are driving. Your life, or someone else’s life is not worth a text message.
Interestingly enough…
The newest iPhone 11 update now offers a “Do Not Disturb while Driving” feature. It stops texts and calls from coming through while people are driving, and lets the person sending the text or calling know that the other person is occupied. However, this feature can be turned off. As a family owned business, we would love to see these feature being used more often. Keeping our clients safe with quality insurance is always a priority for us here at Lincoln Insurance Agency; but we also want our clients to drive safely on the road as well.
Please remember that no life is worth a text message or a phone call. They can always wait until you are stopped in your vehicle.
